About Dr. Hoort

Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Podiatry is the branch of medicine dealing with the medical and surgical treatment of disorders and diseases of the foot and ankle. The podiatrist is the recognized specialist of the foot and ankle, performing over 80% of all foot surgery in Michigan. Our licensure requirements include a B.S. or B.A. undergraduate degree and four years of podaitric medical school, resulting in a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. Physicians also receive post-graduate training including internships, residencies and fellowships.

Education

Dr. Hoort graduated from Calvin College in 1973 with a B.S. degree. He received his doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) degree from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1978. Post graduate studies include an intership at Billings Hospital, University of Chicago, and a residency in foot surgery at Westview Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He served as a sports medicine consultant for the athletic department of Purdue University in 1979 and 1980.

Certification

Dr. Hoort is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. This is the only agency approved by the Council On Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatric Medical Association to certify foot surgeons in the United States. Certification requirements include passing extensive written and oral examinations as well as submitting actual surgical cases for review and approval by the board. Dr. Hoort is also a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The ACFAS is an educational and scientific organization devoted to the ethical and competent practice of surgery, addressing issues and concerns of the podiatric surgeon, and dedicated to improving and advancing podiatric surgical skills and high quality care for the patients with foot and ankle disorders.

Memberships

Dr. Hoort is a member of both the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association. He is a member of the Lakeshore Physicians' Organization and the Holland Rotary Club. His work has been published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Hoort has been in private practice in Holland since 1981.
